Hunter (Haley Bennett) is a newlywed pregnant housewife who develops a habit of swallowing non-edible objects when her husband and his family start taking control of her life.
Hunter’s Pica disorder is a manifestation of her need to take back control. She lives in a beautiful house and her husband is a rich and handsome young man but she is powerless and seen only as a way to preserve his family legacy by delivering a child. Eating non-food items is the only thing she can do that gives her authority over her body.
Swallow is all about Hunter’s growth and mental awareness. She is not weak as everyone thinks. In the end she manages to escape from that toxic environment and she finally faces her own issues.
